Marathon Sunday Ride

Tideway ... view from the cockpit. Yep, that right hand
shifter is set a bit low on the bar. Gotta do some wrench
work, or rather tweak age with the allen key.
We often get decently warm weather for NYC Marathon Sunday, and although it was overcast for most of the day, this Sunday was no exception.

Today also had the distinction of also being the day we put the clocks "back," so it just seemed like there were fewer hours to get things done. A bike ride was on the mandatory list. Porch demolition work was also a top priority.

Although it might have been too warm for the NYC road running race, it was definitely a perfect day for a bike ride. Despite a fresh headwind breeze filling in from the west-northwest

L.I. Sound in the distance -- the
view before descending Tideway to Sterling.
Feeling under the weather, the objective was to have fun, get exercise and get some good climbing miles in before working on porch deck flooring and get it all done before the sun set.

One day I'll take the DSLR out on the ride, to capture the blueness of the sound in the distance — for now, you'll just have to imagine it's seductive appearance between the gap in the trees int he photo below.

Nice to bag a PR on the Lighthouse turn. The descent leading into a short sprintable climb makes top -tier segment rankings possible even for a clyde like myself, with asthma and a bunch of other ailments.   More galvanizing, though, is the battle against the asthma, other ailments and the elements. Oh yeah, and getting old — bollocks to that -- look at the age of a lot of us cyclists it's an inspiring thing, for sure.
