After not feeling so great yesterday, and just getting it back together enough to get Koda out to the Dog field for an hour, do some cash flow, pay a bill or two and taking aspirin later to try to make the mystery pain stop; today rolled round less painful and even more stunning.
It was a must-do-something day. But first some quality dog walking. Koda had it in mind to go here and there, follow his Mom route. He was pointing his nose in the direction he wanted to go and looking back as if to say "No, not that way, this way." That was followed by a reconnection with the back yard I haven't enjoyed in a month or two. Relax and eat a salad in the shade.
And then the call came from the boys ... the magic word "Beach!"
Alrighty then; I was almost going to let it ride, as the surf was too big. Maybe paddle Manorhaven? But Robby wanted a bit of a road trip ... so we settled on Bayville and it was pure gorgeous.
Maybe not ideal water conditions as there was a bit of a three-way bump in the waters — wind swell from the NW; a little bump from the NE and a refraction swell from the shore. Even Robby got into it — he was and gave it a shot, but the chop was challenging for him on comparatively little floatation and width for his now Rick Nash-like size.
Soon both Robby and Gordy were out there taking it in turns — Robby paddling, Gordy swimming, and I was thinking, "you know — should have brought 3 boards along!" But since Robby hasn't show the slightest inclination to paddle, this came as a bit of a surprise.
So, with Gordo now happy swimming, I grabbed the yellow board he had been using and decided to get in some arm paddle practice. After a year of avoiding surfing paddling, so as not to aggravate the neck, this was a test. On the board not bad. No issues. I kept my head down. Endurance -- not great, but adequate. Aftermath, not eventful. And the big treat for everybody — since to get all the family along meant that dinner would have to be "taken care of" — was a trip to the new Smashburger back in Port. They do a pretty decent black bean burger, and the Children's burger is about the size of a BK Quarter Pounder!
Nice solid paddle, worked up some good speed in the quest to catch some imaginary waves.
