That a short few weeks before, the remnants of Hurricane Sandy were packing their bags and a Noreaster was setting up a snowy shop.Back on Oct. 29-30, this pond was overflowing it's banks, through the sheer rising of the all areas waters, and being blown west to meet the creek.
"As calm as a mill-pond," they say and that's more or less what it is when it's calm. When it's not it's an unwelcome guest in a few people's basements.
That's where that Cat 5 hill comes in handy. Best place to be perched when the Sound gets out of hand.

P.S. absolutely one of my favorite spots to include in a bike ride. Fast flat on the east side leading to a hairpin uphill sprint that just begs you to keep momentum, lean the bike over in the uphill U turn, at the risk of grounding a pedal (if you keep on pedaling, that is.) It's always a technical challenge — how fast to enter the turn, when to coast, keep the inside pedal up, and then kick into a sprint uphill for the rest of the climb.
