Land's End, there's a peace about this place, for now ...

Land's End, off Hoffstot, Sands Point
There's a peace about this place, at least for now.

The cellphone camera of course does not do the view justice, but that blue on the horizon is all there is. Technically, looking out NNE to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, or maybe right down the Sound and out across the Atlantic, kinda sorta.

"Land's End" it's called by its owners, (but it's not the geographical "real" one in Cornwall, England). Here, it's the adopted name of a real estate development that is selling land and homes on a high-worth tip of this peninsula, so that view is unlikely to last. It's actually not even a true land's end, since Montauk should probably take that distinction in the U.S.

But if you do gaze out on that expanse on such a day as this, it's a fair chance it will mesmerize. And you won't worry about your average speed -- I don't stop or use the "lap" function my old Garmin Edge these days, as the buttons don't work well, and it might not restart. So I let that time tick away.

Mill pond, still pond.
Closer to home, another spot worth letting time tick away, is the Mill Pond. High tide, low tide, mid tide; it has a lot going for it, especially if you are a goose or duck, walker, runner or cyclist.

If on a bike, the fast flat cruise along the Mill Pond Road side is worth the diversion, as long as the wind is not coming from the east/northeast.

Both Land's End and Mill Pond can be part of the same bike ride with a handful of miles or so of ardent pedaling.

And, it being the last cold day, maybe, for quite a while, it was nice to get back to ...
